[Author Interview] Jeff Zentner (Author of The Serpent King)

If you have no idea who Jeff Zentner is, he is the author of the one of the most anticipated releases for 2016, The Serpent King. His debut novel has been included in some articles’ top 10 anticipated books. I received an e-ARC of his book before and let me tell you that it’s AMAZING. The book is something we crave for. It’s funny, heartbreaking, and most importantly, it contains a lot of lessons. I would not be surprised if this book will become the #1 New York Times bestseller or win lots of awards because it is really worth it. My review of this book will come soon.

1. What/Who inspired you to write?
My failed music career.  Seriously, I saw that I was never going to be able to have a career as a musician but I felt like I still had stories to tell. In the publishing industry, your age is not nearly as important as in the music industry. Plus, I had always wanted to write. I’ve always been a huge reader and lover of words and stories.

2. What is the title of your favorite book?
The Road by Cormac McCarthy

3. Do you eat when writing? If so, what do you eat?
I don’t because I do most of my writing on the bus to and from work. But sometimes I’ll write over my lunch break and when I do, I eat red beans and rice every single day.

4. What is your least favorite thing to do?
Go to a party where I don’t know anyone.

5. When you are not writing, what do you do?
Spend time with my family, spend time outside. I have to spend at least two hours outside every day or I get really anxious.

6. What is your all-time favorite movie and TV show/series?
Favorite movie: Return of the King from the LOTR trilogy
Favorite TV series: Friday Night Lights

7. Give your best ‘one’ word to describe your upcoming book: The Serpent King
Overcome.

8. What’s the feeling that your upcoming book will almost finally be released?
Great excitement and relief!

9. Can you give an advice to aspiring writers out there?
Read as many excellent books as you can get your hands on. You can’t be a great writer unless you’re a great reader. Store away words and phrases you love. Scrutinize stories and characters to help you understand why you care about them and why they compel you.

Thanks for reading, everyone! Have you guys already added this book on your TBR or shelved on Goodreads? If you haven’t, click here to be directed to its Goodreads page. The book will come out on March 8th 2016, so don’t forget to keep your radar open on that month.

END 3

  1. I have the e-galley of TSK also but haven’t gotten to it yet! My pile of library books and their due dates totally get in the way. Looking forward to starting it soon. Thanks for the insight!
